Paint the Rock: Support Critiques on Violent Culture and Corporatization at University of Connecticut

Where: The Rock in front of the Foundation Building on UConn Storrs campus

When: Wednesday, May 1st, 6PM

This web page has been created in an attempt to spread information about a rock painting event this Monday at 7PM, to show support in face of the violent backlash that a University of Connecticut student faced after posting her feminist critique on the University's re-branding choices and motives. The original critique can be found here: http://thefeministwire.com/2013/04/an-open-letter-to-uconn-president-susan-herbst/

The Daily Campus article that addresses the community response to the article can be found here: http://www.dailycampus.com/writer-of-open-letter-attacked-online-1.3036489#.UXqdvivEp

The Feminist Wire's Editorial board posted a response as well: https://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fthefeministwire.com%2F2013%2F04%2Furgent-an-open-letter-to-president-susan-herbst-the-uconn-community-barstool-sports-and-others-on-behalf-of-carolyn-luby%2F%23.UXqhkxAwKwI.facebook&h=oAQErW04Y

Some students have decided to show support for the author by painting the rock outside the Foundation Building this Monday at 7PM. The facebook page with the event information can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/events/615440278484292/

For those who cannot access that page, or do not use facebook, below is the information posted by students:

"Calling all student activists....please show your solidarity and support by coming out to paint the rock. We want to show that the UConn student body will stand by our fellow Husky Carolyn Luby. We have a moral responsibility to promote the security and well-being of those in our community. No one should have to endure ridicule as a result of being empowered and expressing their opinion. That said, we want as many supportive huskies at this event as possible. Though of course we know that everyone has different views on the new logo, we hope that for the event we can put our personal opinions on the article aside, and instead focus on one common goal: Advocating for a campus free of abuse and harassment. Please invite anyone that has a vested interest in making this campus a safe living and learning environment. Meet at The Rock across from the Foundation Building at 7pm. "
